Yesterday we reported how Inter Milan were set to snatch Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri from Liverpool’s grasps. Today though, Stoke City assistant manager Mark Bowen have announced that they are hunting the wide man.

In quotes carried by BBC Sport, Bowen said: “There is genuine interest because he is a fantastic player. He wants to play regular first-team football.” The news has sparked shocked reactions on Twitter as fans comprehend the news that Stoke are preparing to steal Shaqiri from right in front of some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Shaqiri is 23-years-old and began his career with Switzerland with FC Basel where he played 92 times, scoring 18 times in the league. In February 2012 Bayern Munich paid €11.6m for the talented youngster but despite a good first season in Germany, his time under Pep Guardiola has been limited. With 9 Bundesliga showings this season, mainly from the bench, the German Champions are willing to sell Shaqiri this January.

Stoke City’s Bowen admitted that they would have a major battle for his services: “He’s definitely on our list, but as you can imagine there is competition for a player of his ability.” However he didn’t think Stoke’s stature would mean they can’t fight for him “Without any detriment to Stoke City, to get a player like him on board would be fantastic, but he has got many choices of what he wants to do, but we don’t rule ourselves out.”

Stoke fans does the potential of a move for 41 capped Swiss international Shaqiri excite you? Liverpool fans, how does it make you feel that Stoke are showing more desire than you for the winger? Where will he end up?
